Ms. Sharmila Tagore was elevated as a Special Invitee to BCCC in January 2020. Before this, she was a Member of the Council for three years, a stint during which contributed immensely to the work of content self-regulation. Ms. Tagore, recipient of two National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards, began her career as an actress in Satyajit Ray’s 1959 Bengali film Apur Sansar. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2013. She has had a long stint as Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), making her well versed with regulatory affairs. Ms. Tagore was chosen as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2005. She has also been a Jury Member for International Competition at the Cannes Film Festival. She appeared in Shakti Samanta’s Kashmir Ki Kali in 1964. Some films she has acted in include An Evening in Paris, Aradhana, Amar Prem, Safar, Daag, Maalik, Chhoti Bahu, Avishkaar, Mausam, Mississipi Masala, Devar, Anupama, Mere Hamdam Mere Dost, Satyakam, Yakeen, Chupke Chupke, Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka, Faraar, Besharam and Mangaldeep, among others.
